SANNE
MÖRICKE studied music
in Holland, klezmer accordion with Alan Bern and Willy Schwarz
among others. She is a foundig member of Holland´s DI KALLES,
probably the world´s first all-female klezmer band, which
unfortunately ceased to exist in the summer of 2000. With their
duo KHUPE Möricke
and clarinetist Christian Dawid
published their cd MIT DER KALE TANTSN in 1999, a highly-acclaimed
first recording of the duo (which is possible to order directly
from the artists.) She was musician in the Staatstheater Bremen
production of Brecht´s "Three-Penny-Opera", and
is a looked-after accordionist who played in several bands since
she moved to Berlin in 2000.
HEIKO
LEHMANN played with Berlin-based band AUFWIND from
1988 to 1994 and recorded a cd with them. In 1994, Lehmann founded
GOLUS
STORYTHEATRE (TORONTO-BERLIN) with Canadian writer
Michael Wex and appeared as guest musician in various bands (for
instance with BUDOWITZ, KAPELYE, WILLY SCHWARZ, CHICAGO KLEZMER
ENSEMBLE). Wex and Lehmann developed four plays, for which Lehmann
wrote the music and which he translated into German, as well as
Wex´s cult novel SHLEPPING THE EXILE. Lehmann writes radio
plays, co-produces a kids' music
theatre and directs.
His first musical "Die
Meistersinger von Dlugaszow" was premiered in
2001.
MERLIN
SHEPHERD has been Musical Director for The Royal
National Theatre, the Royal Shakespeare Company and Shakespeare's
Globe Theatre, London. He works as Music Co-ordinator for KlezKamp
USA, KlezFest London and taught at KlezFest St Petersburg, KlezFest
Evpatoria in Ukraine and KlezKanada. He is one of the world's
leading players of traditional East European Klezmer Clarinet
style, and apart from his own ensembles he has worked and toured
throughout Britain and Europe with BUDOWITZ, KLEZMER BRASS ALLSTARS
and THE BURNING BUSH, as well as a Istanbul tour with Heiko Lehmann
and his trio NEW PRESUMPTION in 1994.
